First Five Nebraska is an initiative of Early Futures Partnership

It’s National CACFP Week, a celebration sponsored by the National CACFP Association to raise awareness around the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). The program goal is to combat hunger and promote a healthy diet and sustainable lifelong eating habits in the care economy, including young children in child care during their most critical period of development. CACFP provides a foundation for health, learning and economic stability for young children, their families and communities.

How to Get Involved
Register for National CACFP Week on the Association’s website to receive updates and materials to join in on the celebration. There also are free recorded webinars found under “Ways to Participate” and a  “Free Webinars” tab to learn more about the importance of quality early childhood nutrition in Nebraska. The Association has also provided materials for participating child care programs, a social media challenge and advocacy templates to contact your government representatives.

More Ways to Participate
Any person, early childhood care and education provider or organization can participate in National CACFP Week. Here are some ideas:

One Final Way to Participate
First Five Nebraska worked with State Senator Bob Hallstrom to introduce LR296, a legislative resolution urging Congress to enact permanent changes to the federal Child and Adult Care Food Program to reimburse all participating family child care homes at the higher Tier I reimbursement rate and provide additional reimbursements for meals and supplements. The resolution will be signed and sent to Congress. At that time, we’ll ask you to contact Nebraska’s Congressional delegation and urge them to vote in support of it.
