FFN policy staff will testify at four hearings for interim studies this week. They are among the seven studies we’re working on with state senators this year. Interim studies allow senators to explore topics they’re interested in, and often lead to legislation. As part of the studies, senators and stakeholders can gather research, identify policy and administrative barriers, learn about best practices and examine potential policy solutions surrounding these issues.
All four hearings will be before the Legislature’s Health and Human Services Committee, and testimony will be by invited testifiers only.
Hearings on Wednesday, September 16, at 1:30 p.m. CT:
LR382 (Senator Fredrickson, District 20): This study is examining issues related to play therapy access in Nebraska. Play therapy is a well-established, evidence-based mental health intervention that is particularly effective with young children.
LR383 (Senator Spivey, District 13): Maternal depression in Nebraska and potential statutory or administrative changes that may support maternal health is the focus of this study.
Hearings on Thursday, September 17, at 9 a.m. CT:
LR423 (Senator Rountree, District 3): This study is looking at food insecurity for pregnant and postpartum women and their children in Nebraska, understanding that good nutrition is critical for the health of mothers and can significantly impact birth outcomes.
LR391 (Senator Dungan, District 26): Diaper access for Nebraska families is being studied this interim. This issue is important because caregivers often struggle to afford an adequate supply of clean diapers to maintain child health and hygiene.
